Chicken Sausage and Apples Skillet

Craving fall flavors, but need it to be a quick, one skillet dinner? Here’s your answer!

This makes about 4 servings.

NOTES You could even add a little white wine with the chicken broth and let the alcohol cook out, but the flavor left behind would be great!

Apples, onions, chicken sausage…20 minute meal that tastes like fall!

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

  • 4 apple chicken sausages, sliced into bite-sized pieces

  • 1 Tbsp butter

  • 2 sweet apples, (like Fuji or Gala) sliced into thin slices

  • 1 small yellow onion, thinly sliced

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp paprika

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 cup reduced sodium chicken broth

  • 2 Tbsp heavy cream

  • 1/4 tsp apple cider vinegar

Here’s how to make it

  • Heat a large skillet to med-high along with olive oil. Add chicken sausages and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring often.

  • Remove the chicken sausage to a paper towel lined plate.

  • Add butter to the skillet (leaving whatever oil and drippings in the skillet). Once the butter has melted, add onions and apples and salt.

  • Cook, while stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes.

  • Add remainder of the seasonings and the chicken broth, scraping the bottom of the pan (deglaze). Also add the chicken sausage back to the skillet.

  • Allow to simmer for about 5 minutes to reduce the broth to about half.

  • Finally, add in heavy cream and apple cider vinegar. Stir and allow to simmer on low for a couple of minutes.

  • Serve with some mashed potatoes and enjoy!
